Crisquarius & the Diacetylmorphine Scam

“Crisquarius and the Diacetylmorphine Scam”

Starting as medicine, it takes away the hurt,

But then it gets greedy and leaves souls in the dirt.

It’s taken heroes, friends, and a lover of mine.

How many fucking times will it cross that line?

As I walk through the night, I hear rumors on the street:

Demons have been spotted in the alleys where we meet.

How many damn times can I hear this on repeat

‘Til I need to change the track and get back on my feet?

Chorus

Shuffle played the track as my psyche swirled,

From my speakers slipped his voice and like smoke, it curled.

Dropping like silk, the memories unfurled

Of a man who held my heart then departed this world.

My temptation is zero, but its presence is vast,

Shapeshifting through close friends, leaving flags at half mast.

The old portals are aflame; we need to find another way

To pull back through the ether before we’re led astray.

A soothsayer’s tooth, infected with uncouth truth

Delivered venom from the anti-virus sleuth.

That tornado still twists; it still tears up our roots;

Foundations unbuilt and not a sign of love’s fruits.

Chorus

Shuffle played the track as my psyche swirled,

From my speakers slipped his voice and like smoke, it curled.

Dropping like silk, the memories unfurled

Of a man who held my heart then departed this world.

His words were of love and of beauty and of pain.

We’d smoke and read poetry with nothin’ to gain

But a feeling amplified by the sound of the rain;

Knowing I can’t have that again might drive me insane.

Wrestled with the thought so much it’s nearly got me pinned,

Then it changes constancy and I’m the one who grins.

The pathways are new, but the most scenic views found

Once the needle points North without tracks on the ground.

Chorus

Shuffle played the track as my psyche swirled,

From my speakers slipped his voice and like smoke, it curled.

Dropping like silk, the memories unfurled

Of a man who held my heart then departed this world.
